Cover Up, and Then Some

I should have known when I read that this pattern was modeled after something in the Penny’s catalog. (Okay, so it might not have been Penny’s but you get the idea.) I should have been certain when I saw that the pattern consisted of two rectangles with a slash for the neckline. But no, I held onto the hope that this would turn out to be a sort of disco-’80s hybrid caftan, elegantly casual.

As you can see, that is not what occurred. I ended up with a sack. And this isn’t even as bad as it was. I took probably 10 inches off each side after trying it on for the first time. But I couldn’t let this gorgeous leaf-patterned fabric go to waste, and I really did need a beach cover-up, so I wore it anyway.

Hey, it does the job. But no one’s going to mistake me for Donna Summer.
