celebrate good times

My youngest sister turned 29 in July. In years past, her birthdays were weeks-long affairs but I suppose she has mellowed in her old age, because this year we had a low-key celebration.

I volunteered to make the cake, and picked out one of Sweetapolita’s examples. I was all set to make up this lovely birthday cake, when my sister sent me another cake.

I will confirm up front that it was SUPER delicious; my middle sister declared it the best chocolate cake she has ever had. However, it looks like a big pile of poo. Not something I would choose to present to someone on the last birthday of her 20s.

But really, who cares? Look at that thing! The chocolate cake is covered with chocolate buttercream, with chocolate ganache poured over the top. So yeah, I’ll forgive its aesthetics.

Happy birthday indeed.
